Which online train ticket should you buy?

• Commuter e-ticket: use Pravesha. The site warns that commuter e-tickets are not valid on intercity trains.
• An advance reserved seat: use Sri Lanka Railways seat reservation. Choose an available train and reservation for your journey.

An online commuter ticket is not evidence that you have a numbered seat. If travelling on a particular intercity service or planning a journey where a seat is essential, check the reservation portal and the selected service's terms.

How to buy a commuter railway ticket online

1. Open Pravesha using the official link above.
2. Enter the departure and destination stations, journey date, passenger count and class.
3. Review the selected journey and the available ticket conditions.
4. Check the contact information and final amount before completing payment.
5. Save the ticket confirmation and QR e-ticket for travel.
