Searching for a “Lanka app” or an app in Sri Lanka can mean very different things: a travel booking, a mobile-network account, a government payment or a product you want to build. Start with the job you need to do and the organisation responsible for it. A familiar name in a search result does not prove an app is official.

This is an independent guide, not a ranking or an endorsement of every transaction. App Dev Sri Lanka is not affiliated with the services below. Availability, device requirements and fees should be checked with the provider before use.

Official starting points for useful Sri Lanka apps

Do you need to download a separate app?

Not always. GovPay's FAQ explains that its features are available through supported bank and fintech services rather than requiring a separate GovPay app. The railway portals also provide a web starting point. Avoid installing an unfamiliar app just because its name resembles the service you need.

For rides and delivery, PickMe publishes its own app information. Confirm the selected service, pickup or delivery location and total shown in the application before ordering. We do not assume every service is available in every district.

For mobile connectivity, distinguish account management from SIM activation. Our Dialog eSIM conversion and purchase guide links to the operator's procedures for those separate tasks.

Check the publisher before installing

Follow the provider's official website to the app store whenever possible. Compare the developer name, support website, privacy policy and the purpose of the app. Similar icons, reviews and download counts are not sufficient proof of authenticity.

Keep the operating system supported and review permissions in context. A map may need location while it is in use; an unrelated request for broad access deserves a question. Consider whether the service offers a browser alternative if you do not want to grant a permission.

Do not install APK files sent by unsolicited messages or enable device-management access for someone claiming to help with a payment. Use the provider's documented support route when something is unclear.

Prepare for payments and account recovery

Check the organisation, reference number and amount before confirming a payment. Keep the receipt and transaction reference privately. If the app appears to freeze, establish whether a payment completed before trying again; repeating the action can make a problem harder to resolve.

Use account-recovery details you control. Keep a backup way to contact the provider when the service depends on the same phone or SIM you are replacing. Never give a support impersonator your password, card PIN, activation QR code or one-time code.

Choosing an app for a Sri Lankan business

A consumer-service directory is different from selecting a development partner. If you want to build an app in Sri Lanka, define users, languages, payments, offline needs, support and account recovery before choosing a platform. A focused mobile website may meet an early need; a native app should have a clear reason to exist.

Our mobile app development overview and MVP planning guide explain scope and delivery decisions. For a store, see the Sri Lanka e-commerce sites planning guide. These resources help turn an app idea into requirements without copying another service's identity or promising an unsupported integration.

Frequently asked questions

Is “Lanka app” the name of one official application?

The search phrase alone does not identify a publisher. Check the exact service and organisation instead of assuming every similarly named result is connected.

Which app should I use for train tickets?

Choose the ticket type first. Our online train ticket guide explains the difference between commuter tickets and reserved seats and links to both official portals.

Does App Dev operate the apps in this directory?

No. Contact the relevant provider for bookings, payments, account access or refunds. Contact App Dev for a software-development project, not support for these third-party services.
