AI Interview Practice in Sri Lanka: Prompts and Plan

AI interview practice can give you a convenient way to rehearse, but it works best with a clear role description and a realistic feedback rule. For Sri Lankan applicants, the goal is to improve the clarity of genuine examples, not to memorise an answer the tool invented.

Use AI as a practice partner. The employer's actual interview format and rules still determine what you may use during an assessment.

Define the practice session

Choose one role and one question type. A junior QA interview might focus on testing decisions, while a customer-support interview might focus on clarifying a problem.

An original prompt could be: “Act as a practice interviewer for a junior QA role. Ask one question at a time. After my answer, ask one relevant follow-up. Do not supply an ideal answer until I have tried.”

This creates a conversation rather than a list of scripts to memorise.

Give feedback a clear structure

Do not accept a rewritten story that gives you responsibilities you never had. The improvement should be a clearer account of your experience.

Verify technical feedback

An AI interviewer may judge a correct answer incorrectly or provide an inaccurate explanation. Check technical claims against official documentation and a small working example.

If the feedback conflicts with your understanding, investigate the exact point rather than assuming the tool is authoritative.

Keep a note of corrections. The session should improve your reasoning, including your ability to question unreliable feedback.

Transfer practice to a real conversation

Record a spoken answer or practise with a trusted person. Typing gives you more time to edit than a live interview, so both modes can reveal different weaknesses.

Use short prompts instead of reading paragraphs. Practise asking for clarification and explaining uncertainty.

Before an actual assessment, follow the employer's rules about AI, notes and external resources. Preparation assistance does not imply permission to use those tools during the interview.

Can AI predict the questions you will receive?

It can suggest plausible practice questions based on a role, but it cannot establish the employer's actual interview plan.

Should you ask for a score?

A score is useful only when its criteria and evidence are clear. Focus on the specific improvement you can make next.

Ask for concrete missing information and one challenging follow-up. Compare the feedback with a human listener's response.

How long should a practice session last?

Choose a short session you can review properly. Several carefully reviewed answers are more useful than a long conversation whose feedback you never apply.

What is a good final result?

You should be able to explain the same genuine example more clearly, answer follow-ups and identify what you still need to learn.
